Professor Tan Yock Lin (1953–2023) was a distinguished legal scholar. He was a prominent figure in Singapore’s legal community and Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore. Over a career spanning forty years, he taught courses in no fewer than fourteen subjects and was the longest-serving and most prolific member of the Law Reform Committee of the Singapore Academy of Law. Known for his unparalleled knowledge of Singapore law, intellectual rigour, and deep personal integrity, Tan’s scholarship helped define and advance the study of law in Singapore.

This volume brings together twelve essays by eminent legal scholars addressing the wide-ranging fields in which Professor Tan made lasting scholarly contributions: equity and trusts, personal property, international law, and the law of evidence and criminal justice. Alongside these are personal tributes that offer glimpses into how he touched the lives of those around him as student, teacher, mentor, and colleague.
