What's the added education guidance?
This book is particularly useful to those teaching or studying IFRS.  Cross-references guide readers through IFRSs and facilitate their understanding by providing the connection between:
- related Standards;
- Standards and their accompanying illustrative examples and implementation guidance; and
- Standards and the IASB's main considerations in reaching its conclusions (ie the bases for conclusions).
In addition, footnotes summarise technical issues considered but rejected by the IFRS Interpretations Committee.

This edition is presented in two volume parts:

  • Part A (the Conceptual Framework and requirements) contains the complete and up-to-date consolidated text, with extensive cross-references and other annotations, of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs), International Accounting Standards (IASs), and IFRIC and SIC Interpretations; and
  • Part B contains the accompanying documents, such as illustrative examples, implementation guidance, bases for conclusions and dissenting opinions.

Question:  Why should people buy this Guide through IFRSs (‘the Guide’) rather than the official main IFRSs bound volumes (the Red Book or the Blue Book)?

The Guide includes the complete and up-to-date text of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs), including International Accounting Standards (IASs), and IFRIC and SIC Interpretations, and much more.In particular, the thousands of cross-references guide the reader through the text of IFRSs and the other IASB issued material that accompanies but does not form part of IFRSs. Other annotations to IFRSs in this text include IFRS Interpretations Committee agenda decisions and clarifications.

Question: What are the key benefits of this Guide?

This Guide will save you time. The thousands of cross-references will guide you to the appropriate paragraphs of IFRSs and the explanations and illustrations that accompany those paragraphs. Furthermore, the annotations clarify aspects of the original text.

Question: Who should buy this Guide?

The text is designed for those that require a detailed knowledge of IFRSs. It will assist in the preparation, audit and interpretation of IFRS financial statements. It will also be of use to those who teach and study IFRSs.

Question: What questions does the Guide answer for the user/reader?

It identifies the interrelationship between paragraphs and sections of each IFRS and its accompanying material—ie when reading a particular paragraph or section of a Standard, the text answers the question: which paragraphs of this Standard, other Standards and accompanying material will help me understand this paragraph better? It also provides some explanatory annotations and includes the text of relevant Interpretations Committee agenda decisions.

Question: How often is the Guide published/updated?

The current printed edition of the Guide through IFRSs is the July 2012 edition [published September 2012]. Future printed editions will be published annually, usually in September, with the IFRSs content as that issued by the IASB at 1 July.
