The repeal of the authority of the Governor in Council to prescribe by regulation what constitutes a non-restricted firearm and the passage of an Order in Council on May 1, 2020 which reclassified approximately 1,500 firearms and their variants as prohibited. An amnesty order was put in place ending on April 30th, 2022,
A companion amendment was the creation of a general authority to grandfather individuals by way of regulation,
