About the Author

Loukas Mistelis is the Clive M Schmitthoff Professor of Transnational Commercial Law and Arbitration at Queen Mary, University of London.  He is a member of the Centre for Commercial Law Studies at where he is Director of the School of International Arbitration. He maintains a selective arbitration and consulting practice in respect of international commercial and investment disputes, secured transactions and complex contractual matters, including e-commerce and technology matters. He has also participated in a number of experts groups, including for the UK Department of Trade and Industry, the International Chamber of Commerce, UNCITRAL and UNCTAD. He has been a Visiting Professor at Columbia University School of Law, Keio University in Tokyo and teaches at the NYU in London program.

Laurence Shore is a dual U.S./U.K. qualified Partner in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.  He is Co-chair of the firm's International Arbitration Practice Group.  Mr. Shore's practice focuses on international arbitration.  He has been the lead advocate in a large number of arbitration cases under, for example, the ICC, LCIA, AAA, UNCITRAL and Swiss Rules.  He also has sat as an arbitrator in cases under the ICC, Cairo Regional Centre, and LCIA Rules.  In addition to his work as an arbitration practitioner, Mr. Shore has tried cases in the United States courts and in England's High Court.  Prior to joining Gibson Dunn, Shore was a Partner at Herbert Smith in London, where he practiced since 1995, serving as the Head of the international arbitration group since 2005.

Dr. Stavros Brekoulakis is an academic who works and advises on dispute resolution matters. His legal expertise focuses on arbitration in the context of international business transactions, affecting construction projects, shipping and insurance contracts, international trade, investments, trading agreements with developing countries, Eastern Europe and EC law. He lectures on courses of International Comparative and Commercial Arbitration, International Construction Contracts and Arbitration, International Commercial Litigation and Conflict of Laws at Queen Mary University of London.

Hans Smit is the Stanley H. Fuld Professor of Law at Columbia University School of Law. Professor Smit is acknowledged as a internationally renowned expert in the fields of International Law and Arbitration and has published numerous books and articles on International Arbitration and International Law and Procedure.  Professor Smit has been a visiting professor at the University of Paris and has consulted on legal reform at the World Bank. He is also a member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences and International Academy of Comparative Law. From 1960 to 1969 Professor Smit was a Reporter to the U.S. Commission on International Rules of Judicial Procedure. He is a former Adviser to the U.S. Delegation to UNCITRAL.

ABOUT THE CONTRIBUTORS

Stefano Azzali, after having practiced law in Italy, South Africa and United States, Stefano Azzali joined the Chamber of Arbitration of Milan in 1988, where he now acts as Secretary General.

Milena Djordjevic is Lecturer at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law.

Björn Gehle has advised clients on construction projects and construction-related disputes throughout Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Australia. His other areas of specialisation are international trade and protection of foreign direct investments.

Sergiy Gryshko is a lawyer with the Kyiv office of CMS Cameron McKenna LLC.

Doug Jones is an internationally recognised infrastructure and dispute resolution lawyer. Doug also has extensive experience as arbitrator and counsel in international and domestic arbitrations, and has also been regularly involved in the use of ADR including mediation in construction industry disputes.

Roman Khodykin is Counsel in the litigation and dispute resolution practice group at the Moscow office of Clifford Chance, an associate professor at Moscow State Institute of International Relations
(MGIMO), a member of the Moscow Bar Association and holds a Ph.D in Law.

Jonathan Lux is a partner at Ince & Co and is a leading expert in shipping and commercial law. Jonathan was named "Global Shipping and Maritime Lawyer of the Year 2010" at the Who's Who Legal Awards.

Tatsuya Nakamura, is a Professor of Law at Kokushikan University in Tokyo, Japan.

Emilia Onyema is a Lecturer in Law at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

John Rhie is a partner in Kim & Chang's international arbitration and cross-border disputes group and an adjunct professor at Korea's Judicial Research and Training Institute. John's primary practice is in the area of international commercial arbitration and investment treaty arbitration and he has a wealth of experience in institutional as well as ad hoc arbitrations.

Rogier Schellaars is a Senior Associate in De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek's Litigation and Arbitration Practice and primarily acts as counsel in international arbitration and advises on commercial contracts.

Reema Shour is the Ince & Co Professional Support Lawyer for dry shipping and international trade and commodities.

Harsh Pati Singhania is a fourth-generation industrialist. He belongs to JK Organisation, a large industrial group and manufacturer with a turnover of over USD 2.2 billion and assets of over USD 2 billion. Mr. Singhania oversees the group's Pulp & Paper and Milk Products businesses, in addition to other corporate activities.

Bommel van der Bend is a Partner in De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek's Litigation and Arbitration Practice, handles international arbitrations and advises on contractual issues in the area of largescale construction projects and commercial contracts in the oil, gas and electricity industries.
