Details

Blackstone's Student Police Officer Workbook 2010 presents a structured series of practical scenarios and exercises, designed to complement Blackstone's Student Police Officer Handbook 2010.

By tackling controversial and challenging areas facing every student police officer, the authors provide a practically-based context to help improve students' understanding of the legislative and procedural content covered in the Handbook.

An initial 'knowledge check' allows students to identify gaps in their knowledge, whilst the subsequent questions and answers relating to the events of the scenario demonstrate both the complex and indistinct nature of police decision making. Finishing at the point where the police officers are likely to complete their shifts, each scenario concludes with a section explaining the expected long-term outcomes.

Many of the Initial Police Learning and Development Programme (IPLDP) key themes are covered over the eight chapters, including communication skills, upholding human rights, forensic awareness, use of criminal intelligence, arrest and detention, and reporting and record keeping.

These themes are explored through realistic scenarios, from drink and drug driving to shoplifting and internet sexual grooming, and are steeped in the authors' own operational experience of policing. The scenarios are structured to enable the reader first to understand fully the context of the incident and then to respond to questions set within the text.

The Workbook also uses other features to test understanding such as multiple choice questions and 'gapped' statements.
