Dr Cheong obtained an LLB from the University of Malaya, Master of Laws from the National University of Singapore, Diploma in Shariah Law & Practice from the International Islamic University and Phd from the University of Sydney. Dr Cheong was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor in 1986 and joined academia in 1989, and is currently Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Malaya.
