About the Author

This title is written by a team of competition lawyers and economists led by HMBC Rikrik Rizkiyana, a partner of Assegaf Hamzah & Partners and co-founder of boutique competition firm, Rizkiyana & Iswanto, which, prior to its merger with Assegaf Hamzah in 2013, was one of only two antitrust practices in Indonesia listed by Global Competition Review as being in the "Elite category" in 2013. Rikrik has more than 20 years of experience in competition law, and is listed in The International Who's Who of Competition Lawyers 2012 and 2013, the first Indonesian to achieve such acknowledgment. Recently, he was named an Asialaw Leading Lawyer, 2014. A member of the American Bar Association's Antitrust Law Section, Rikrik has played a prominent role in a number of influential domestic and regional competition-related organisations down the years, including serving as chairman of the Indonesian Competition and Consumer Community and on the board of the ASEAN Competition Institute. He regularly provides training on competition law to blue-chip corporations, such as PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, Bank Indonesia, PT Coca-Cola Indonesia, PT XL Axiata, Asahi-Mas Group, Mitsubishi Krama Yudha, Yamaha, Astra International, and Global Mediacom Group

Assegaf Hamzah & Partners
Assegaf Hamzah, Chambers & Partners' Indonesia Law Firm of the Year 2014, is widely recognized as being at the forefront of competition law in Indonesia. Since its merger with Rizkiyana & Iswanto in 2013, it has been the largest competition practice in Indonesia, as reflected in it being named an "Elite Category" firm in 2014 by Global Competition Review. Assegaf Hamzah has long been prominent in advocating for essential change in the Indonesian competition law regime so as to bring it more into line with international best practice.

In recognition of his outstanding reputation in this practice area, Eri Hertiawan, partner in Assegaf Hamzah's competition practice group, was selected to pen the chapter on Indonesia in the seminal reference work, ASEAN Competition Law, published by Rajah & Tann LLP, Singapore, and LexisNexis in 2011.

Reviews

...Competition law must be seen in the context of an integrated and synchronized approach that brings together economics and law. This book, authored by a team lead by HMBC Rikrik Rizkiyana from ASSEGAF HAMZAH & PARTNERS, goes some way towards making this a reality... the authors do not shy away from highlighting a number of crucial and controversial issues affecting Indonesian competition law at the present time... I firmly believe that this work will provide a major contribution to the future development of both competition law and economics in Indonesia as we prepare for the dawning of the ASEAN Single Market in 2015.
Foreword by IR M. Nawir Messi, Chairman of the Commission for the Supervision of Business Competition (KPPU), Republic of Indonesia

...Both law and policy makers will find invaluable references and input in these pages for their endeavors to further improve competition law and policy, while regulators will benefit from the authors' practical insights and commentaries on the enforcement of competition law to date. What particularly distinguishes this work from other similar ones on Indonesian competition law is that it approaches the matter not only from the legal perspective but also the economic perspective. The fact that it is in English should also help open up a window on Indonesian competition law for overseas jurists and practitioners.
Foreword by The Honorable Prof. Dr. Syamsul Ma'arif, Supreme Court Judge, Republic of Indonesia
