Contract Administration Guide to the SIA Conditions of Building Contract

The Articles and Conditions of Building Contract published by the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) standard form is widely used in the private sector on a variety of traditionally procured and successfully completed projects.

The Eighth Edition of the suite of contract forms, for both the measurement contract and the lump sum contract versions of the main contract form, was launched in December 2008. There are no major surprises in the new edition as the primary risk allocation between the contracting parties and most of the familiar clauses have been retained. The legal commentary on each clause complemented with practice notes and helpful illustrated flowcharts will be an aid to those involved in contract administration given that they must be able to understand the meaning and requirements and appreciate what is expected of them in the standard form. The compendium of administration templates with notes on when, how, by and to whom these forms are to be given provide much needed practical guidance.

The collaboration between Eugenie Lip and Choy Chee Yean, a construction professional and a lawyer, both of whom have several years of experience in their respective specialist disciplines, makes this book an instructive and practical roadmap for all users of the SIA contract form.
