Costs & Funding following the Civil Justice Reforms: Questions & Answers is a unique book. Produced in conjunction with Practical Law, this practical and accessible book tackles common practitioner questions on the effects of the 2013 Jackson reforms on costs and funding. It not only states the law, as set out in the latest legislation, court rules, forms and case law, but also identifies and, where possible, tackles issues and inconsistencies. It is generally up-to-date as of 14th February 2025 and includes the Civil Procedure (Amendment) Rules 2025 (SI 2025/106), which amends and uprates the costs recovered in obtaining medical reports in low value road traffic-related soft tissue and whiplash claims, and the 179th CPR Update, which introduces two new pilot PDs (PD51ZG1 and PD51ZG2), together with three new Precedent costs forms (Precedent Z, RZ and TZ) to give effect to recommendations from the Civil Justice Council’s Costs Report introducing proportionate cost budgeting procedures.

The new edition includes amendments made by other recent CPR and legislation updates, including the Civil Procedure (Amendment No.3) Rules 2024 (SI 2024/839), in force on 1 October 2024, which made amendments to Parts 3 (Court’s Case Management Powers), 44 (General Rules about Costs) and 45 (Fixed Costs), including the insertion of a new section X on fixed costs determination.
