Chinese maritime law is, unsurprisingly, a land of mystery for both Chinese and foreign lawyers. On the one hand, unlike other areas of the Chinese legal system, the maritime legal regime in China has its deep roots in the common law system – employing abundant legal concepts, terms and mechanisms which are unfamiliar to other legal practices in China.
