The book examines both theoretical and practical aspects of Indications of Geographical Origin (IGOs) with a special focus on European Law.

It has four distinct yet mutually related aims. First, it is to discuss theoretical issues of the law of IGOs including historical foundations of that law, terminology, protection models, legal subjectivity, and related aspects. Second, it is to cover the EU law on IGOs from the systematic point of view.

In doing so, the relevant legal acts are analysed by a commentary approach providing the text of commented excerpts beforehand. Third, it is to reveal the interrelation of the EU law, from one side, and the national laws of EU Member States, from the other side, focusing on harmonized and non-harmonized areas of law.

Fourth, it is to discuss current legislative initiatives and further development possibilities for the EU law on IGOs.
