Details

Guide to Risk Management in Imports/Exports is the latest offering from author Alan Bennett.

While import transactions have always attracted legal risk, recent changes in the volume and range of international commerce in which Australian importers are involved, and the complexity and significance of the legal issues that this commerce generates, have significantly increased the need for appropriate controls to offset those risks.

Risks to Australian importers, for example, include the risk of being involved in costly and complex disputes involving the laws or courts of another country.

Australian importers also face risk where the law fails to provide the support that an Australia business needs or expects in its international commercial transactions, for example the failure to provide certainty of ownership, or compensation for loss or a lack of facilities to order and process transactions like exchange trading rules.

Many Australian laws impact on various aspects of the import process. However, the import process however must also have regard to the equivalent laws in the exporter jurisdiction.

The Guide is an excellent reference for importers and exporters, accountants, lawyers, financial controllers, company secretaries, in-house and general counsel of organisations, as well as academics teaching in related disciplines.
