Details

Housing and Housing Benefit Law is a practical guide to solving everyday housing and housing benefit problems quickly and easily. The third edition provides a comprehensive review of housing and housing benefit law, including all recent developments: recent and future changes to housing benefit; the impact of the Homelessness Act 2002; the effects of changes brought about by the Housing Act 2004; the use of ASBOs in housing cases; calculation of housing benefit for those over pensions age; the implications of the new standard rent allowances; payments geared to help people back into work. This book is designed to work in day-to-day situations and help you through frequently encountered problems. It contains a portfolio of standard letters, court forms and appeal tribunal documents to help you with your particular problem. It also includes a handy checklist of housing benefit rates for ready reference.

Reviews:

"For anyone involved in any shape or form with Housing or Housing Benefit Law it is highly recommended" Public Health Law October 2005

Housing and Housing Benefit Law provides a useful introductory guide to applications for housing, homelessness, tenancies, enforcement of rent arrears, tenancy management issues, possession proceedings, Housing Benefit and use of the Human Rights Act 1998 in housing. However, it does not provide enough detail so that other standard texts in these areas are not required. Organisations or individuals seeking a basic guide and overview of the areas covered would not be disappointed as the text is well written and easy to understand and there are some useful sample standard letters, examples of court forms and tribunal documents in the appendices.

The sections dealing with Housing Benefit provide a clear overview of the main rules but there are better publications dealing with Housing Benefit law. The information is clearly and concisely written but is not referenced to indicate the source of the rules and there is little discussion around or interpretation of the rules. If you are just looking for a detailed resource for Housing Benefit law you will be better buying something else.

Kate Smith, The Adviser, February 2006
