About the Author

James Byrne

Professor Byrne teaches law at George Mason University School of Law and directs the Institute of International Banking Law & Practice.

 
Professor Byrne has played important roles in connection with the reform of letter of credit law and practice on the national and international levels, including the revision of UCC Article 5, in which he chaired the joint task force for the American Bar Association (ABA) and the United States Council for International Business, and served as an adviser to the Drafting Group and to the International Standby Practices, of which he was reporter and chair of the Drafting Group. He also served as past chair of the ABA Letter of Credit Subcommittee of the Business Law Section’s UCC Committee, and the United Nations Convention on Independent Guarantees and Standby Letters of Credit, where he chaired the U.S. delegation to the Working Group that drafted it.
