About the Author

Des Butler is a Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law, Queensland University of Technology, where he served as Assistant Dean, Research (1997-2002) and has taught Contract Law since 1989. He was awarded his doctorate in 1996, and is the author or co-author of numerous books and articles on topics including contract law, psychiatric injury caused by negligence and media law. He has developed technology-based programs for enhancing the learning of law since 1990 and has received numerous awards for his work, including an Australian Award for Teaching Excellence, and a Janders Dean/LexisNexis Legal Innovation Index Award. He is the only person to have twice won the LexisNexis/Australasian Law Teachers Association Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Teaching of Law. He is an Australian Learning and Teaching Fellow and a Senior Fellow of the United Kingdom Higher Education Academy.
