As with the first edition, the second edition sets out the general principles relating to the assessment of damages, and the tables of awards for personal injuries made in the High Court and the Subordinate Courts.

The second edition is however divided into nine main chapters, with separate chapters on special damages and the principles relating to general damages. The original chapters on general damages (pecuniary), general damages (non-pecuniary), interest, foreign workers and workmen's compensation, appeals, and estate and dependency claims have also been substantially altered to include new aspects and developments in case law since 2001.
