This is an OHS/Healthcare book on managing risks for healthcare workers. It is both a reference text for healthcare professionals and OHS practitioners, and a text book. The authors are recognised and highly respected authorities on this topic. The healthcare industry has specific issues and needs, for example stress in that industry is almost twice the level for the average of all industries in Australia; occupational violence is prevalent, particularly for nurses and other hospital workers; and it has been well documented that back injuries are at a very high level for nurses.

The aims of this book are to:

- identify the major hazards and risks to which health care workers are exposed;·

- provide detailed guidance on effective control mechanisms for the range of hazards and risks in different healthcare environments;

- recommend policies and strategies that will assist healthcare CEO's to meet their 'duty of care' obligations enshrined under the OHS regulatory frameworks in each of the Australian states and territories;

- and mitigate risk.

It contains four sections: a theoretical overview and introduction; a section focusing on medicine; one on nursing; and one on allied health. It concludes with an overview of OHS specifically related to the delivery of healthcare, in urban and rural locations

It provides a comprehensive theoretical perspective on OHS relevant to the healthcare industry. It provides case studies and vignettes relevant to general practice, nursing and allied health that are current and relevant.
