Details

Foundations of International Law is a book that has been written with a specific objective in view. It seeks to explain and illustrate the cardinal concepts of international law to practising and academic lawyers, to students of law and international relations, and to anyone interested in developing their understanding of the rules of the international system. The book also seeks to bring clarity to international law that is occasionally missing from some specialist works, and a comprehensiveness which is always missing from basic introductions. It is unique also in that it is written for a specifically Hong Kong readership.

The book deals with the main topics covered in most general university courses in international law, with an emphasis on the legal system itself and a number of core systemic  areas  which  are  not  usually  the  subject  of specialised courses in most law schools: the nature and sources of international law, the law of treaties, statehood, legal personality, State responsibility, treatment of foreign nationals, jurisdiction, immunities, territory, dispute settlement, the international use of force, and the place of international law in Hong Kong.

This unique text provides for Hong Kong references and domestic cases which are well referenced to domestic laws like the Bill of Rights making Foundations of International Law a much anticipated and useful work for the region.
