Web 2.0 and Human Resource Management 'Groundswell' or hype?

What is Web 2.0 and how is it being used within organisations? Why is it important for HR, and what are the challenges? What impact is Web 2.0 having? And what is its future? 

CIPD commissioned researchers at the University of Glasgow School of Management to explore the relationship between the family of web-based technologies known as Web 2.0, and human resource management. Their report sets out a framework explaining how Web 2.0 technologies can be used for a range of people management purposes, including: 

reaching out to the virtual generation for recruitment 
learning and knowledge sharing 
more effective communication with employees 
negotiating with and motivating employees 
supporting employees with new collaboration tools 
involving employees in the innovation process and in key decisions 

The CIPD research reveals the opportunities and also the risks that these technologies present, and offers guidance in developing policies. Ten case study examples show how some organisations are using Web 2.0 and managing the balance between engagement and control.
