This second edition of Alexander's The Administration of Justice in Criminal Matters was first published in 1915, and reissued with a supplement in 1919.

Within this text, Alexander has endeavoured to capture not simply the components of the criminal justice system, but the very spirit in which justice is administered. Although the book's focus is primarily on law, modern readers will appreciate the extent to which themes of history, politics and sociology are integral to the arguments of the text.
